Celebrating Black-Mother-Owned Businesses: Refinery29 Press | Nude Barre
As the daughter of an “illustrious Black woman,” Refinery29 writer, Alexandra Polk, is no stranger to the strength and serenity of Black motherhood. In celebration of the many hats Black mothers wear (silk lined of course as to not disturb the edges), Polk highlighted five Black-mother-owned businesses that are trailblazing in their fields and succeeding despite growing homes. Amongst founders: Stormi Steele (Canvas Beauty), Tisha Thompson (LYS Beauty), Julia Collins (Moonshot Snacks), and Maya Smith (The Doux), you’ll find Nude Barre founder, Erin Carpenter. In concise words of wisdom about business, family, and journey, Carpenter shares her story of balancing parenting, profits, and remaining present with her girls.
