SIDE BARRE Convos | Colorism & Cultural Appropriation in Beauty

For many BIPOC people, your nude can be seen as derogatory. Colorism has been a symptom of racism, colonialism, and imperialism that has plagued many for generations. Depending on what part of the world you live in, your nude may be seen as favored, disgusting, or inconvenient.

This past July, our founder Erin Carpenter discussed colorism and cultural appropriation in a SIDE BARRE conversation with Rooshy Roy, Co-Founder and CEO of Aavrani, and Devin Kielle, Founder and CEO of Deon Libra. These fashion and beauty trailblazers recalled their experiences as women of color and how their brands cultivated a level of confidence and self-love that they wish to provide to others.
